Job Summary

The Gas Distribution Designers primary focus is the design and estimating of customer initiated requests involving main extensions, subdivisions, and smallcommercial gas projects including:

  • Gas main and service (2 or larger)
  • Gas relocations requested by customer
  • System upgrades to piping for company request
  • Subdivisions

Customer or governmental relocation requests:

  • Road relocations with plans and notes from Engineer
  • Customer initiated relocations

Smaller infrastructure project estimates:

  • Third party damages on gas system (main)
  • Gas main abandonments
  • Leak repair main replacements
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides Construction/Maintenance Plans, evaluate construction methods, operate design tools, specify materials and coordinate plans with construction contractor
  • Prepare construction costs, calculate material and labor costs, and apply proper accounting
  • Process work requests utilizing customer information for loads tom complete customer extension model after estimate is completed. Communicate contract/contribution to required parties for customer initiated requests. Obtain appropriate permits within specified time. Coordinate with other departments for specialty reviews (i.e. Environmental) for additional permitting needs
  • Complete Construction Packet to include construction methods, permits, detailed maps showing design notes of tie-ins, location, and/or depth, and all design details
  • Complete the closing of all work requests/work projects, review documentation from contractor for completeness, prepare job packet for mapping and create as built documentation for record retention
  • Maintains quality service by following distribution standards, Company policies and procedure manuals and necessary support for customer restoration efforts
  • Creates positive customer interactions by providing timely information to customers and expedited requests
  • Attend preconstruction meetings as required/requested for business unit/region, customer and/or governmental relocations. Perform field work as needed for construction
  • Collaborates with engineers, construction coordinators, technicians and others on status of projects
  • Maintain technical knowledge by completing required testing/training, attending educational workshops, and reviewing technical publications
  • The design and estimating of larger projects initiated by the Company (new area surcharge, integrity mains, etc.) can/will be estimated by Engineer or Manager for budgeting purposes. Dependent on size and detail, larger projects may be completed by external engineering firm for bid documents
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates Degree Required in Architectural/Structural, Mechanical, Drafting. In lieu of a degree, candidates will have 2 years prior industry related field experience to be considered
  • 1+ years experience with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database pc software
  • 1+ years computer aided drafting system experience or related software experience such as "CADD"
