Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Maintenance Mechanic "B," : Installs, maintains, and repairsmachinery, tools, equipment, furnishing, fixtures, physical structures, andpipe and electrical systems using journeyman level skills in all the variouscrafts required to complete the essential functions of the job. Troubleshootand test plant machinery, equipment etc.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Undersupervision and review, does moderately complex work using initiative andingenuity by performing the following tasks. Other work related duties may beassigned as necessitated by Company priorities.
- Install maintain and repair machinery tools, equipment etc. Determines methods and sequence of operations to complete assigned tasks applying knowledge of plant maintenance theory practice etc. Visually inspects and tests machinery, tools and equipment to assure proper working condition.
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with appropriate personnel to diagnose problem or repair machine. Dismantles defective machines, tools and equipment and installs new or repaired parts. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, suchas transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components ofmachinery and equipment, as well as telephone*nd other communication lines or equipment.
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, including facility plumbing, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Repairs and maintains physical structure and appearance of establishment. Includes the performance or oversight of cleaning, painting, repairing furniture or fixtures, moving or installing furniture or fixtures, disposal of trash, recyclables, hazardous material, etc.
- Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, milling machine, etc. to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
- Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other structures which may be wood, drywall, metal, glass or other construction material.
- Licensed and capable of operating a motor vehicle. Skilled to drive and operate a forklift.
- Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the department and the company. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Performs any training of other employees in maintenance and repair functions as required. Assists other Company personnel as required.
Equipment /Process Responsibilities -Performsduties where facility, property, tools, equipment, or machines may be damagedor man hours lost, through improper daily maintenance and attention toprocessing. Maintains and repairs machines, tools and equipment as well asphysical plant and furnishings at highest levels of complexity.
Material orProduct Responsibilities -Performsduties that require close attention to work and supporting documentationspecifications and other requirements. Responsible for proper functioning ofall machines, tools, equipment, furnishings and the physical plant.
Responsibilityfor Work of Others -
Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the successfulmaintenance and repair of machines, tools, equipment, furnishings and thephysical plant. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems orconcerns regarding maintenance or repair issues as it affects productionschedules or the working environment.
SafetyResponsibilities -Goodhousekeeping, a total knowledge of all safety requirements related to machines,tools and equipment. A thorough knowledge of safety requirements as related tothe physical plant regarding such things as fire safety regulations, hazardousmaterial handing procedures, building safety codes etc. Adherence to, andenforcement of Company Safety rules is mandatory.
Initiative andIngenuity -Requires initiative in solving complex problems related tomaintaining and repairing the physical plant, furnishings and all machines,tools and equipment. Uses ingenuity in adapting to situations or conditionsthat are extremely variable and where limited standardization exists.
WORK ENVIRONMENTEnvironmentalsurroundings -Work is ina machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, exposure tooutdoor elements is tess desirable than in a typical office environment.
UnavoidableHazards -Possiblehazards related to cuts, bruises, burns, electrical shock, muscle strains andsevere trauma. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, metalworking fluids &chemicals, heating elements, open flames, high voltage electricity and airborneparticles. Risks from working in confined spaces, on ladders or other elevatedpositions and from repetitive motion or awkward position. Risks from exposureto outdoor elements and weather conditions. Risks from the operation of a motorvehicle and forklift. Protective safety wear and equipment should be worn asappropriate to the task at hand.
EFFORTPhysical -Able tolift over 100 pounds. Requires hand and finger manipulation to operate hand andpower tools, instruments, and / or install or repair various components such aswiring, conduit, switches, relays, pipes, valves, etc. required by job duties.Must be able to reach, bend, stretch, kneel, stoop, crawl and climb, and workin confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces etc. Job assignments mayrequire standing, sitting, working on a ladder, or in a confined space oroutdoors for periods exceeding 15 minutes at a time.
Mental -Reasoningability required to interpret moderately complex blueprints, drawings,schematics, wiring diagrams, floor plans, etc. Must be able to draw validconclusions from a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Required toorganize work tasks for best efficiency with supervision or review.
Visual -Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration forextended periods of time. Able to read precision instruments. Requires closeand distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, focus adjustment anddepth.
QualificationsEDUCATION / TRAININGDemonstrated ability to read and write English of a levelrequired in Company shop documents and computer software entry and processingrequirements as well as technical, installation and maintenance manuals. Mustbe capable of applying mathematical operations using fractions, decimals,algebra and geometry as required by essential job duties. Must be able tooperate machines, tools and equipment at a complex level as required by essential jobduties. Generallyequivalent to journeyman trade school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCERequires 3 years experience orequivalent skills and knowledge expertise in physical plant and industrial machineinstallations, maintenance and repairs which are necessary to fulfill jobrequirements. Must have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.Must have knowledge of government required Building and Safety Codes as well asknowledge of construction methods and techniques. Must read precision measuringinstruments such as various gauges, meters, calipers and micrometers a well as wiring diagrams,machine schematics, blueprints and otherdocumentation similar or comparable to those used by the Company.
