The Position
Mine Manager

Job Summary

JOB TITLE: NYCO Mine Manager

LOCATION: Willsboro, NY

JOB SUMMARY:

The Mine Manager will be responsible for the management of Surface and Underground Mining, Crushing and Sampling Operations for the NYCO Mines ensuring that the mining operations are maintained in a safe and environmentally friendly manner to achieve production, cost, and quality goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervising all mining, crushing, and sampling operations, mine employees & contractors, changing methods and operations as necessary to ensure adequate supplies of crude ore are available for processing plants.
  • Evaluates the use of mine labor, equipment, and materials to achieve efficient and best cost operations.
  • Directs all departmental operations in such a manner that all projects are completed in a timely manner, employees are managed effectively and fairly, and all records are maintained accurately.
  • Twenty-four hour responsibility for all mining operations, equipment, employee safety, and issues affecting the mining operation.
  • Develops, executes and reconciles short term mine plans and collaborates with group planning team to develop, implement and evaluate long term mine plans. Plan inputs to include mining methods, schedules, equipment selection and procurement to achieve production and cost goals.
  • Develops departmental budgets and tracks actual performance vs budgetary goals. P&L responsibility for all mining, crushing and sampling activities.
  • Participate in the development, justification and installation of capital projects, including capitalized mining campaigns, mobile equipment acquisition and crude ore handling facility installations.
  • Trouble-shooting mine and crushing problems as they arise.
  • Manage and communicate crude inventory levels at the mine and Willsboro plant, manages crude hauling to maintain appropriate inventory targets
  • Maintaining quality standards through procedures and audits.
  • Responsible for counseling, hiring and terminating employees as needed.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Purchasing for securing and managing vendor relationships for mining and sampling system equipment maintenance and repair, drilling and blasting services, and miscellaneous support materials. Meet with vendors/contractors as necessary to handle vendor issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring ore delivery and waste stripping targets are being met and effectively communicating progress and issues as they arise
  • Promote safety consciousness, good housekeeping and maintain a safe work environment. Direct departmental safety initiatives. Promotes and is a champion for Imerys safety protocols with special focus on the mine related best practices and initiatives
  • Provide necessary inputs to the strategic planning and total facility budget process for the NYCO Mining Operation.
  • Direct, Monitor and ensure environmental compliance for the mining operation, including a thorough understanding of permitting requirements and timely submission of necessary permit amendments.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with people from all levels of the organization, vendors and customers.
  • Able to track, monitor and report on the status of key projects, and on the performance of the mine.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively and to meet deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge of mining and mining equipment.
  • Proficient in various software applications for generating spreadsheets and presentations
  • Good leadership, interpersonal, organizational skills with the ability to effectively supervise diverse work groups.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • BS degree in a technical field (preferably geology, mine or geological engineering).
  • 5+ years quarry or mining experience (preferably hard rock mining with underground experience).
  • 3+ years supervisory experience in mining, quarrying, maintenance, or processing environment.
