Under the supervision of the Chief Deputy, the employee performs duties related to the operation of the Sheriff's Office. Employee receives calls and gives information or instructions to callers, if the call is a call for service, the call will be transferred to Autauga E911. Employee also provides assistance to the administrative function of the Sheriff's Office. This job is considered safety and security-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background check and random drug screens.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Communications. The employee performs communications duties to assist Sheriff's Office in the enforcement of law.

  1. Reports to supervisor for assigned duties and instructions.
  2. Makes daily checks for functionality of all communications, teletype, and computer equipment; constantly monitors jail, fire alarms, and smoke detectors.
  3. Notifies IT technician regarding equipment failures; makes written report of failure and notifies Supervisor and 911Center.
  4. Faxes the list of deputies and supervisors on duty for shift to Autauga 911 at start of each shift.
  5. Receives phone calls from the public; and directs the caller to the person/department it needs to go to or gives the caller the phone number they need to call.
  6. Greets the public at the Window and directs them to the Permit Department, Sex Offender Office, Investigations, Administration or contacts Autauga 911 if they need a report.
  7. Runs checks in the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) and local for Jail Staff on all persons being released from the Autauga Metro Jail, and coordinates pick-up with outside agencies if extradition is needed.
  8. Maintains a blotter for all activities that occurred during the shift with a synopsis of each call and the outcome. The Blotter is emailed out at the end of each shift.
  9. Issues Case Numbers to deputies upon request and maintains the Case File Log.
  10. Notifies Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Investigators, and supervisor of major crime alerts and those instances established by policy and departmental procedure.
  11. Monitors State Emergency Management and local Emergency Management for disaster alerts and emergencies; monitors communications from Severe Weather Broadcast Center and disseminates information as needed.
  12. Provides information to the general public regarding weather and road conditions.
  13. Maintains emergency telephone lists for all County schools, fire departments, County road shops, highway departments, utilities, and an individual contact person for each.
  14. Performs continuous computer inquiries regarding tag registration, warrants, criminal histories, driver's license, stolen property verification, etc.
  15. Transmits and receives administrative messages by teletype with other agencies.
  16. Maintains activity log for NCIC transactions as required.
  17. Enters and/or Clears stolen items, property, vehicles and firearms from NCIC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Sheriff's Office Assistance. The employee provides assistance to the operation of the Sheriff's Office.
  1. Creates case files for Deputies.
  2. Arranges for transport of inmates between facilities.
  3. Performs criminal history background checks for employment and Investigators.
  4. Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Ability to complete NCIC Operator certification course; ability to recertify.
  3. Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and during emergencies.
  4. Ability to travel for training or seminars.
  5. Ability to pass pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.
