Position Title: Mental Health Counselor

Reports To: Director of Counseling

Status: Temporary

Position Summary

The Hill School is seeking a Mental Health Counselor with a start date of August 26, 2024, to cover a 12 week maternity leave. This professional will offer assessments, clinical counseling, support, and guidance to students. Operating within the Counseling Center, the clinician will provide personalized counseling to students to proactively influence mental health and promote overall wellness.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Primary focus of the Mental Health Counselor includes but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform psycho-social assessments and recommend treatment based on assessment outcomes.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Create personalized treatment plans addressing identified needs, with tailored goals, methods, and techniques.
  • Plan and deliver student prevention education lessons promoting resiliency, reducing mental health disorders and substance abuse, and enhancing overall wellbeing.
  • Plan and deliver prevention education lessons to faculty and parents, promoting resiliency, reducing mental health disorders and substance abuse, and enhancing overall wellbeing.
  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision with the Counseling team.
  • Collaborate with school faculty to support students' academic and social-emotional well-being.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and clinical record-keeping requirements of the Counseling Program.
  • Work effectively within a team environment

Ideally, a candidate should have at least 5 years of supervised post-graduate counseling experience working with an adolescent population. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred, but not required. A Master's degree is required.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Licensed as independent-level providers in the state of Pennsylvania, such as Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) or those who have completed a Master's program and passed their state licensing board exam and are open to working under supervision to pursue licensure.
  • Excellent communication and delivery skills
  • Competency with clinical record documentation and experience with electronic medical records
  • Previous work experience specifically in adolescent substance abuse
  • Previous work experience teaching prevention topics in the classroom setting or in front of large groups for students, parents, and faculty.
  • Training in motivational interviewing techniques.

Position is contingent upon successful completion of certain background checks, including criminal history background checks, fingerprint-based background checks, reference checks, employment history checks, and educational background checks, upon hire and during the course of your employment, to the extent permitted by law and consistent with the School's policies regarding employment eligibility.
