Are you searching for a part-time job that allows you to use your technical skills to perform a variety of maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and construction duties? If so, the City of Harrisonburg's Journeyman position in Street Maintenance may be the right opportunity for you!

This Journeyman role is a part-time position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring range of $18.78 - $20.18 per hour; however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

As a Journeyman within Public Works, you'll assist in a variety of duties depending on the department's current projects. While an essential function for this position focuses on mowing, there may be other opportunities to work in a variety of trades, including but not limited to mowing, painting, and installing and replacing various items, such as electrical equipment, wooden structures, paneling/tile/ceilings, and plumbing. Per City policy, this position is limited to no more than 1,500 hours in a 12-month period. An exact schedule will be dependent upon the selected candidate's availability in conjunction with business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in one of the building trades. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • At least 18 years of age by hire date required.
The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
  • DMV record review;
  • Job-specific physical; and
  • Criminal background check.
