Sweet Basil Inc is now looking for a Pastry Chef to run our dessert programs for both Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard Restaurant. This is an amazing opportunity for a talented pastry chef to produce desserts for a Michelin Guide recognized restaurant. The pasty chef works with a team of 3 dedicated pastry cooks and is complete charge of the production and execution of the desert offering. We also offer occasional celebration cakes as well as a small bread program and many other opportunities to showcase your talents. The word dynamic is one that could be used to describe this position.

Sweet Basil Inc is the owner and operator of both Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard Restaurants. Both restaurants are located in the heart of Vail Village. Sweet Basil has a storied history and has been counted among Colorado s best since 1977. This landmark restaurant is driven to provide a world class dining experience rooted in exceptional hospitality. Sweet Basil s cuisine is progressive, contemporary American, ingredient driven, refined yet playful. Mountain Standard is based on the same drive for excellence, but presented in a more casual, communal atmosphere. The food is focused on carefully sourced ingredients and wood fired cooking methods. The open kitchen, open live fires, energetic vibe, and carefully curated taps and cocktails all contribute to the perfect modern mountain dining experience.

The duties of the Pastry Chef in our operations are varied and encompass complete kitchen management. The Pastry chef will be expected to perform the following essential duties:

-Lead a team of passionate cooks, inspiring them to reach their maximum potential

-Participate in daily staff line-ups and relay pertinent information in a clear and effective manner

-Create specials, with an eye towards menu development.

-Ensure the quality of our food through routine line checks, tastings, corrections and adjustments.

-Educate and train our staff, both FOH and BOH on a regular basis

-Execute daily services, ensuring all menu items are executed in an established timely manner and as the item was designed.

-Assist with necessary paperwork, including menu/special costings, mise en place lists, manager log reports, scheduling, and general management team communications.

-Communicate effectively with members of their team, FOH staff and management, fellow chefs and ownership.

These duties are some examples of the scope of the pastry chef position. The ideal candidate will be extremely passionate about food, modern cuisine, ingredients, and hospitality. We want a leader that can inspire others through his or her passion. This person should also have a strong desire to improve their own personal skills and abilities, ideally helping the restaurant get better in those same areas.
