Description

Lifeguard is responsible, under the direction of the manager on duty, for supervising the Pools and the areas surrounding them.

SUPERVISION

This work is performed under the direction of the Aquatics Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

(May not include all duties performed.)

The Lifeguard is directly responsible to the manager on duty and is charged with the safety of patrons, quality of programs and maintenance of the pool facilities and equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintaining required certifications including American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Maintaining required fitness level and alertness on duty to respond effectively to any emergency.

Attending all required training programs and meetings.

Promoting a safe aquatic facility by instructing patrons in aquatic safety and The Pool rules in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Providing efficient, courteous service to all patrons.

Scanning and monitoring all patrons in swimming pools and responding immediately in the event of an emergency in accordance with American Red Cross, OSHA and department procedures, guidelines and standards.

Clearing swimmers from pools according to The Pool procedures for inclement weather, emergencies, rest periods, drills and closing.

Conducting first aid as needed.

Accurately completing all required reports and documentation as required.

Visually monitoring water levels and clarity and reporting abnormalities to the Assistant Aquatic Manager or Aquatic Manager.

Maintaining orderliness, cleanliness and sanitation of pools, pool facilities, deck areas and grounds, storage and work areas.

Proper care and maintenance of all pool equipment and property.

Reporting any needed repairs or malfunctioning equipment to the Assistant Aquatic Manager or Aquatic Manager.

Assisting in all areas of department operation as requested.

Practicing and encouraging fellow staff to practice customer service excellence.

Promoting and encouraging fellow staff to promote the benefits of aquatics and aquatic programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (Recertification available upon hiring).

Must be at least 15 years of age.
