Description

The School of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale) is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position. This is a full-time, on-campus, nine-month, tenure-track position within the Counseling and Rehabilitation Education (CARE) program. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025.
Examples of Duties

Teach graduate studies in clinical mental health and clinical rehabilitation counseling, in addition to specialty courses. This position may include practicum and internship supervision. Maintain a record of scholarly productivity by initiating research in a specialty area leading to publications in national peer-reviewed journals. Seek external funding in areas of special interest. Encourage and support student research, supervise students in clinical practicum and internship, and advise and mentor students. Provide service to the public and the constituencies of the School, College, and University. Participate in program assessment activities and duties as described in accreditation standards.
Qualifications

Minimum: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Counselor or Rehabilitation Education from a CACREP-accredited program. Applicants who have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor or rehabilitation education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2023, will be considered.
For those applying for the rank of Assistant Professor, ABD applicants will be considered if all Ph.D. degree requirements are met by December 31, 2024. If all requirements for the doctorate are not met by December 31, 2024, a 1-year, term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered at a reduced rate of pay, in accordance with University policy

For those applying for the rank of Associate Professor, it is expected that the applicant will take on the duties as Program Director of the CARE program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor must demonstrate a record of teaching effectiveness and scholarship that is commensurate with appointment at SIU Carbondale at the rank of Associate Professor.

Applicants must possess evidence of or the potential for scholarly research that leads to publications in nationally refereed journals.

All applicants must obtain state of Illinois professional counseling licensure within one year from date of appointment.
Preferred: Applicants who are certified rehabilitation counselors, certified alcohol and drug counselors, or licensed professional counselors or preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with post-masters experience in clinical mental health counseling, clinical rehabilitation counseling, substance use counseling, or a combination thereof; experience or interest in developing distance education through online/hybrid formats; and who have had prior university teaching experience.
