About you and this role

Dow's Energy Business has an exciting opportunity for an Improvement Manager located in Plaquemine, LA.

The Energy Business is integral to Dow's sustainability roadmap to a lower carbon future. This role will be a leader in energy efficiency and implementation of new technologies to meet 2030 carbon reduction goals and carbon neutrality by 2050.

The improvement Manager role is responsible for the prioritization and implementation of process plant improvement opportunities for the Louisiana Operations Energy assets. This person serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical and organizational skills to drive the plant level continuous improvement program targeted at delivering maximum value from the assets, while continuously improving process safety and production efficiency. This role will also serve as manufacturing representative for various small and intermediate projects in the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Possess in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team.
  • Drive knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology.
  • Partner with the experts to develop and implement a Plant Specific Technology Plan that delivers positive year-over-year ROC (return on capital) and non-capital continuous improvement while meeting the plant level EH&S improvement goals.
  • Champion process safety activities and serves as Process Safety Focal Point for the Plaquemine Energy Facility. Partners with plant operation and maintenance personnel to identify and track performance indicators to be used in identification of technology gaps and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Support the facility root cause investigation process by serving as a team member or facilitator for incidents related to process technology. Leads and supports plant continuous improvement activities aligned to the PSTP and also supports the capital plan for the facility. Leads continuous improvement activities for the facility and may serve in specific GPM related roles of project manager or manufacturing representative with an emphasis on supporting electrical projects; however, not exclusive.
  • Champion the "next unplanned event" exercise for the plant and ensures potential solutions are captured in the appropriate prioritization system.
  • Serve as the implementation arm of the technology center.
  • Participate in the on-call program for plant immediate response and advising similar to other day support roles.
  • Serve as manufacturing representative for small and intermediate process projects. May also serve as project manager for small projects.
  • Leverage technology improvements by employing Most Effective Technology (MET) and through networking with other Energy Departments around the globe.
Required qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering OR Relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years manufacturing, engineering, or relevant experience required.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations

  • Wear and use respirators.
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.

  • Lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Energy business experience is a plus.
  • Process Safety expertise.
