The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Controller in our Business Office. This position assists the Controller in carrying day-to-day duties related to maintenance and supervision of accounting, reporting, and fiscal controls over College assets.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Manages and maintains all general ledger activities;
  • Serves as primary back up and support to Controller, carrying out responsibilities as directed in absence of the Controller;
  • Maintains college general ledger, subsidiary ledgers and other accounting records;
  • Provides accurate and responsive analysis and reports of financial and accounting information, such as balance sheets, trial balances, and expense variations;
  • Directs the overall operation of automated financial systems;
  • Prepares a variety of internal and external reports as required in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Maintains established internal control procedures and provide supervision and orientation of staff;
  • Monitors encumbrances and expenditures ensuring they are kept within the budgetary limits and in compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies;
  • Maintains records and prepares reports related to grants, restricted programs, and special projects as directed. Coordinates any funding agency audits of restricted programs as necessary;
  • Develops and presents data for short- and long-range financial planning, and for effective cash management;
  • May supervise staff, providing education, direction, coaching, and regular feedback;
  • Assists with coordinating annual external audit and preparation of financial statements in compliance with appropriate governmental standards. Reviews and/or prepares audit work papers as needed;
  • Prepares internal and external financial reports and statements;
  • Participates in development of an operational plan that supports the College's strategic plan;
  • Prepares budget status reports for departments and ensure expenditures do not exceed budget;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Controllers.


Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and three (3) years of accounting experience with responsibility for preparation of trial balances, journal entries, etc., within an organization of medium complexity
  • Spreadsheet proficiency: Excel, Access, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with municipal accounting or accounting in higher education
