Responsibilities

  • Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
  • Plans and executes applied research.
  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
  • May participate in development of patent applications.
  • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.


Typical Education and Experience

Graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degree in plasma physics, plasma chemistry, chemical engineering, and other related major is required. An experimental plasma research scientist who is an expert in RF plasma hardware (CCP, ICP, microwave plasma), plasma diagnostics (e.g. EEDF, IEDF, IADF, neutral and charged species measurement, and probe, optical, mass spectrometer, and image based diagnostics, as well as voltage and current based sensors), knowledge and experience in plasma physics and/or chemistry, plasma reactor, RF and vacuum component and system, network analyzer, oscilloscope, spectra analyzer, amplifier, signal/waveform/functional generator, plasma impedance matching network. Knowledge and experience in electromagnetic and plasma simulation package (e.g. COMSOL, Quantmol) is a plus. Preferred hands-on experience.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also requires 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard.
