Overview:

Our client is a leader in customized packaging, print, and display solutions, with a global reach and an outstanding work culture. We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our client's Design team as a Packaging Design Engineer reporting to the Design Director. As a Packaging Design Engineer you will be responsible for planning, designing, and developing packaging and POP Displays for the companys products applying materials in a variety of contexts. This position is critical in providing innovative, cost effective, and structurally sound packaging, display, and merchandising solutions for the company's customers. This is a new, full-time role, added to support their business growth.


Role responsibilities

Ensure that the packaging is practical and efficient, allowing the product to be contained inside with proper labelling. This might include designing how products should be packaged, helping to eliminate plastics and reduce dimensional weight and SKU count considering all quality and governmental regulations


Work under the guidance of the Design Director who will assign projects and suggest revisions. Follow the assigned projects from start to completion. Types of projects would include designing Merchandising POP Displays (semi-permanent, permanent or temporary, Packaging (Mail-order, Consumer Retail and Protective Packaging, and new Product Development along with some print/promotional and marketing products


Interact with internal and external customers regarding the scope of projects and collaborate with sales, suppliers, design teams, and client marketing teams on the following:

  • Work closely with the sales team in designing a variety of custom packaging and custom display solutions for customers. Think outside the box in providing solutions.
  • Create quick-turn photorealistic concept renderings/illustrations using SolidWorks.
  • Produce detailed engineering specifications on a part level, for quote or production.
  • Coordinate projects with sales and suppliers to ensure projects are completed on time
  • Manage lead times in a fast past work environment with the ability to multi-task.
  • Assist with Graphic design as needed.


Qualifications:


Role Requirements

You must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this role:


  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years post college/technical school experience in designing packaging and POP displays
  • Proficient in SOLIDWORKS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and 3d printing. ArtiosCAD a plus.
  • Experience in developing packaging and display concepts and design solutions, in collaboration with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Design project management experience and successful track record.
  • Residing in Rhode Island or Southern MA area, with the ability to travel in the NE area for client/corporate meetings.


Preferred skills and experience


Following skills/experiences will enhance your ability to contribute to this role:

  • Knowledge of retailer environments such as Walmart, Target, Kohls, Best Buy and Club stores.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in a variety of materials including Corrugate, Paperboard, Rigid Chipboard Packaging, Thermoforming/ Vacuum Forming, Molded Paper, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal, Aluminum and Wire, Plastics, Wood and Particleboard, Cut & Sew Fabric Foam.
  • Effective communication skills (verbally, written, and presentation) across internal and external teams.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently and effectively across multiple activities and tasks simultaneously.
