Teacher of Art Teacher

(11-month position)

IMMEDIATE OPENING

The Teacher of Art will provide a class environment that fosters learning, personal growth, independent living, and pre-vocational skills through the development of art skills. These experiences will allow students to explore various art media for self-expression, leisure skills development, and potential job opportunities in art fields.

QUALIFICATIONS

(REQUIRED):

  • New Jersey Teacher of Art certification is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods, appropriate developmental instruction, and classroom management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.


(PREFERRED):
  • Successful experience working with individuals with Developmental Disabilities.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, Implement and revise an Art Curriculum for students with developmental disabilities, grades 9 -12 that is aligned with applicable NJ Student Learning Standards.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials that provide individualized and small group instruction that is adapted to the educational needs of each pupil and linked to the goals and objectives for each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Plan class activities and lesson presentations that are developmentally appropriate and meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all students.
  • Instruct students in use, care, operations, and maintenance of art tools and equipment.
  • Monitor student academic progress and social/emotional growth and maintain records of progress in these areas through written reports and a report card.
  • Maintain standards of student behavior through the implementation of the school's positive behavior support system and individual behavior plan when indicated to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, IEP meetings, and daily student contact with regards to all aspects of each student's school program.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings as directed by their supervisor. Including but not limited to staff orientation prior to the beginning of the school year, program meetings, clinical seminars and case reviews when relevant, monthly meetings with the consulting psychologist, meetings with teacher, behaviorist and parents, monthly staff meetings, IEP meetings and Annual Review meetings (when indicated by supervisor) and all team meetings that are indicated by the individual needs of the student(s).
  • Complete and maintain current training in crisis management procedures and interventions.
