Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Supervisor to join the team.
The Sterile Processing Supervisor uses critical thinking to solve complex issues and support OR needs. Acts as a liaison between the OR and SPD, facilitating all instrumentation being ready on time, and supporting all customers of the department. Assists staff with performance improvement. Assures compliance with infection control and sterilization standards, ensuring that sterilization practices and all equipment used for decontamination and sterilization meet quality standards. Directly supervises sterile processing personnel during specified shifts, facilitating staff and departmental efficiencies while monitoring the daily operations of the department to ensure that appropriate quality and productivity levels are achieved. Ensures compliance with infection control policies and AAMI, AORN, and JCAHO standards.
This is a full-time 11am - 7pm position. Days varies, weekend requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Investigates problems/concerns and utilizes proactive problem-solving to meet customer needs.
- In collaboration with the OR charge nurse, reviews OR schedules and add-on cases, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with instrumentation, and offers alternative instrumentation as indicated.
- Collaborates with Unit Management and sales representatives to coordinate loaner instrumentation and product evaluation/changes.
- Collects and analyzes data to improve work processes and makes recommendations to resolve problems and facilitate desired outcomes.
- Observes work in progress to ensure that all equipment is fully operational, work areas are clean and orderly, and that proper supply levels are maintained.
- Coordinates and evaluates the repair, replacement, and refurbishment of all instruments and equipment with the unit manager and PCD.
- Promotes judicious and conservative use of supplies and equipment, identifies opportunities for cost reduction, and participates in the implementation and documentation of cost reduction initiatives.
- Responsible for daily review of all charts and biological/chemical tests from all sterilizers and following established protocols for positive biological results.
- Monitors and documents staff compliance with departmental attire policy, traffic control patterns, and standard precautions.
Experience:
- Three (3) year of experience in sterile processing/and or OR Technician.
Education:
Certifications:
- CRCST or CBSPD certification. Certification from The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
- Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) within 12 months of hire.
