Job Description:
Elsie is looking to hire a Research Associate to join its research team in San Diego, California to help push the development of Elsie s proprietary ultra-high throughput discovery platform. This is an ideal position for Research Associate with experience in cell and molecular biology. A candidate that thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross disciplinary environment will excel at in this position. This candidate will have a hands-on-role developing new methods for the discovery of oligonucleotide therapeutics. Our ideal candidate will bring experience in both cell and molecular biology and be comfortably deploying these skills, under the direction of a scientist, for assay development. In this role, you will contribute the development and optimization of assays for oligonucleotide therapeutic discovery. Our ideal candidate will be excited to work closely with our cell biology teams to aid in the development of oligonucleotide therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, optimize, and run molecular biology-based screens and selections
- Execute a range of nucleic acid manipulations, molecular biology procedures, and cell culture techniques (ex. transfection)
- Responsible for day to day running of experiments, data collection and analysis for platform development group
- Responsible for collaborating with cell biology screening group as needed
- Maintain and prepare mammalian cell lines
- Performs experiments under supervision of a scientist with increasing independence to advance research programs
- Identifies and solves problems in experiments or protocol designs
- Write detailed lab notebook entries to summarize experiments, communicate progress, and present data as required
Qualifications and experience:
- BS in Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with 3+ years of experience in biotech of pharma. Or MS in Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with 1+ years of experience in biotech of pharma.
- Experience with basic oligonucleotide (RNA/DNA) manipulation techniques (ex: OPC, ligations, desalting, nucleolytic degradations)
- Experience with molecular and cell biology assay techniques (ex: qPCR, Western Blot, biochemical assays)
- Experience with human cell culture techniques
- Familiarity with next generation sequencing procedures, library preparation, and theory is a plus
- Background in oligonucleotide therapeutic drug discovery is a plus
- Ability to perform self-directed research with a sense of urgency and positive, can-do attitude
- Ability and desire to learn and contribute across functional groups
