Description
Responsible for prioritizing, leading, coordinating, and documenting critical railroad incidents and police emergencies! The employee will collect information from the reporting party, multiple databases including train management systems and mapping software, and disseminating this information to local emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance) and company responders (UP Police, Risk Management, Safety, Environmental and Shipment Quality, etc.). Providing both initial notification and complete critical incident updates are crucial to appropriate partners.The Critical Call Dispatchers are expected to work at their desk for most of the workday. Periodic 5-15 minute breaks are permitted as appropriate based on call volume at that time.
Accountabilities

Required to remain in a Critical Call Dispatcher for a period of twenty four months from the hire date
Successfully complete an eight week training program with a possibility of a two week extension. Failure to achieve and maintain RMCC standards during the Critical Call Dispatcher training program will result in an administrative review of your employment status
Coordinate the emergency response of local emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance) and UP responders (UP Police, Risk Management, Hazmat, etc.) to critical incidents that occur on railroad property
Handle multiple incidents in progress simultaneously through the use of multi-tasking, critical thinking, and prioritization, maintaining a focus on protecting the safety of employees and the general public
Respond timely to all incoming phone calls, conduct a thorough interview to obtain all necessary information, issue appropriate notifications to internal and external customers, and document all details of the incident
Responsible for phone calls involving a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents including criminal activity (theft, vandalism, trespassing, etc.), non-critical incidents (blocked or rough crossings, idling equipment, vegetation concerns, etc.), preventative incidents (vehicles on railroad track)
Coordinate track protection requirements with train management to ensure the safety of emergency responders, employees, and the general public, while placing a focus on the resumption of train operations at the conclusion of the incident
Issue appropriate notification of critical incidents to city, county, state, and federal regulatory agencies within government time requirements to ensure a coordinated response and reduce company liability
Complete detailed documentation of incidents to meet federal and legal standards for use in critical incident investigation and potential litigation against the Company, to include collection of evidence preservation
Qualifications - Required
A high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Proficient problem solving skills
Able to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations
Analytical and detail oriented
Able to demonstrate effective listening and critical thinking skills
Efficient with multi-tasking and able to adapt to evolving situations in a fast-paced environment
Proficient (40 words per minute) typing skills
Qualifications - Preferred
Physical & Mental Requirements
Required to maintain a stationary position for the duration of the shift, or at least 75% of the time.
Demonstrates the ability to execute tasks independently.
Capable of performing essential functions proficiently in high-stress environments and during 12 hour shifts
Maintains focus on tasks and can make timely decisions.
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders
Required to have normal color vision, enabling the detection and interpretation of various visual color signals.
