Our Dayton, NJ laboratory is looking for a Team Leader - Sample Management for 2nd shift, 3PM to 11:30PM. The Team Lead, Sample Management is to oversee the daily production of a team of technicians in the Sample Management Department, under the guidance of the Supervisor, Sample Management. The Team Lead is expected to lead by example and ensure the work being done by their team is completed safely, efficiently, and timely manner and is performed in compliance with SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). They are responsible for giving guidance to current employees as well as helping train new technicians in the department. They are responsible for following all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment in sample management and throughout the laboratory.

Job Functions

  • Coordinates workflow through Sample Management department to ensure turnaround times and production targets are met.
  • Works with the Department Supervisor to manage staff and departmental equipment to maximize operational excellence; ensures proper sample handling within shipping/receiving, bottle kit preparation, log-in, and on-time sample delivery to appropriate laboratory department
  • Leads by example when processing samples to ensure that the team follows the lab's SOPs
  • Uses LIMS to ensure that samples are logged appropriately and update samples status in LIMS as needed
  • Applies a level of technical judgment to identify potential problems for samples processed by yourself or members of the team
  • Helps maintain best practices in the department to maximize operational efficiency and maintain quality that meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Demonstrates good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example
  • Manages people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively when required
  • Ensure staffing levels are appropriate for sample volumes and that staff are properly trained to perform their assigned duties
  • Assists with the training of new Sample Management Technicians to become productive members of the team
  • Ensures the department operating supplies inventory is appropriate for current workloads
  • Keep supervisory and management teams informed of any potential problems. Provides information to supervisory and managerial staff as appropriate on production, and staff issues
  • Appropriately follows safety requirements for the work that is done and ensure that your team members are also following these requirements
  • Actively promotes a strong culture of safe practices and the maintenance of a safe working environment
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 4+ yrs relevant work experience (Required)
  • Associate degree in a science-related field (Preferred)
