Job Details

  1. Job Title: David City Night Custodian 2pm to 10:30pm during the school year; 7am to 4:30pm during the summer Benefits include Family Health Insurance, Single Dental Insurance, 10 Vacation Days, 10 Paid Holidays
GOAL: To assure the smooth operation of the high school building by assisting the head maintenance person as directed to assure the cleanliness and upkeep of the assigned building

Reports To: Head Maintenance/Building Principal

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  2. Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  3. Run, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment owned by the District.
  4. Knowledge of cleaning procedures.
  5. Knowledge of maintaining floors - carpet, LVT, ceramic tile, wood (gym).
  6. General custodial duties.
  7. First aid knowledge preferred.
  8. Clean record - no history of child abuse/neglect.
SPECIFIC WORK ACTIVITIES:

General Custodial Responsibilities

Daily Classroom Cleaning
  • Empty wastebasket and pencil sharpeners
  • In carpeted rooms__vacuum, move desks if needed, vacuum in corners, around door frames and behind doors
  • Check for open windows
Weekly Classroom Cleaning
  • Clean desktops and chairs
  • Dust furniture, file cabinets, windowsills and bookshelves
  • In tile classrooms__sweep floors, mop when needed, sweep corners
  • Empty wastebaskets and pencil sharpeners
  • clean marker boards
Daily Hallway and Corridors and Stairways Cleaning
  • Sweep, or vacuum hallways and corridors
  • mop tile and terrazzo hallways as conditions require it
  • Vacuum hallway mats
  • clean windows in hallways, as conditions require it
  • Windows should be cleaned every time we have activities in the building.
Weekly Hallway and Corridors and Stairways Cleaning
  • Stairways need to be dusted once a week.
Daily Restroom Cleaning
  • Disinfect toilet and urinals
  • Clean and wipe off toilet lids
  • Clean sinks with disinfectant
  • Wipe off chrome faucets with a dry rag
  • Check toilet paper, hand towels and sanitary fixtures, soap dispensers, refill as required
  • Clean glass mirrors with window cleaner and polish with no streaks
  • Sweep floor and sweep in corners under stools and mop floor with disinfectant
  • Wipe down partitions once a week; always check walls and partitions for writing
Daily Hallway Drinking Fountains
  • Clean with disinfectant
Daily Window Cleaning
  • All outside door windows should be cleaned
  • Classroom doors should be cleaned as needed
  • Classroom windows should be cleaned as needed but the outside can typically wait until the summer
Daily Gym Floor and Activity Center Cleaning
  • Floors must be swept daily with a well-treated dust mop
  • The mop should be cleaned daily and sprayed (this should be done after the floor is swept and mop is treated) this allows the mop head to accept the treatment before the next use
  • Vacuum all mats in the activity center
  • Sweep the stage and all stage steps and ramps
  • Dust where needed
  • Locker rooms need to be cleaned the same as restrooms; the tops of lockers need to be wiped of dust twice a week
  • Hallway high-speed buffing will be done, as the conditions require it
Other General Responsibilities
  • Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance required by the administration
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the administration
  • Complies with local laws in the disposal of trash and waste
  • Maintains and cares for school grounds as directed
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students

At-Will Employment: Employment with the School District is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Employment with the School District is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or

inconsistent with those stated in this employment agreement. The terms of this employment agreement may not be modified except in a writing signed by the Superintendent of Schools.
