School Counselor Job Description

At The Graham School, (TGS), our school counselors work with students to deliver programs that impact personal growth, mindsets and skills across three domain areas: career development, academic development and social/emotional development. School counselors recognize students must demonstrate growth in these intertwined domains to be successful within and outside of school. School counselors build strong relationships with teachers and families to collaborate for student success. In addition, school counselors help to build strong partnerships with community organizations that provide support and resources to our TGS families.

TGS School Counselors will:

Provide culturally affirming, trauma-responsive support to a diverse student body.

Promote equitable treatment of all students.

Develop and deliver dynamic and engaging curriculum to all students that promotes positive character development and focuses on the areas of academics, college and career and social-emotional learning.

Support students in developing skills including, but not limited to, healthy relationships, responsible decision making, social awareness, and self-awareness.

Provide individual counseling, group counseling and classroom guidance to students in all grades.

Plan and implement professional development for school staff to support the social and emotional needs of students.

Communicate proactively and professionally.

Collaborate with other staff to establish positive family-school-community partnerships.

Set goals and participate in professional development to advance professional practice.

Provide support in all tiers of MTSS and PBIS.

Serve on the 504 team as the case manager responsible for coordinating the development, monitoring, and implementation of students with a 504 plan, including working closely with general education teachers to support student needs.

Co-plan and co-teach with general education teachers.

Build culture and character through planning for and leading a small group advisory (Crew).

All school counselors are required to have a Master's degree (at minimum) and a valid Ohio license, and must pass an educator conduct search.

Compensation:

Salary is commensurate with experience.
