#Who are we?

Clean Energy Ventures is an international, multi-fund, diverse venture capital team. And, now more than ever, we are focused on beating back climate change through innovation.

We're a different kind of climate tech VC firm: we lean into complex technologies, we transform strong technical teams into strong commercial teams, and we have a 20-year track record of investments. We invest in multifaceted — often hardtech — solutions that will enable decarbonization at massive scale, then provide hands-on guidance to guide our startups' successes.

Our team is transparent, growth-oriented, and inclusive. We believe in the work we're doing to help human civilization thrive sustainably, and in the power of the technologies and people we invest in.

#What's the role?

This position will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance supporting the financial operations of the firm and will play a key role in improving our systems and processes. As a growing venture capital firm, we need someone who will keep our financial practices and reporting on time and accurate, while ensuring our business runs effectively. This is a great opportunity to learn and help take the finance function to the next level while having exposure to the practice of venture capital investing. This is an accounting and operational role on our internal finance team, not an investment role on our investments team or a path to an investments team position.

If you wake up thinking about finance and accounting and want to work at a company entirely dedicated to solving climate change, then this role might be great for you.

#What are the key responsibilities?

  • Manage payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Maintain general ledger and intercompany transactions across multiple entities.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements and investment performance.
  • Support in developing budgets and forecasts.
  • Analyze budget variances and provide insights on financial trends.
  • Support preparation of monthly management company financial statements.
  • Assist in preparing materials for regulatory filings and audits.
  • Maintain and update financial databases, vendor files and other records.
  • Collaborate with the operations team in managing fund operations.

#Who are we looking for?

Are you proactive and able to work independently yet can also work in a team environment? Do you enjoy managing multiple priorities and having the days fly by? Do you want to take a strong financial operations foundation to the next level to speed our growth? Do you have a strong desire for organization, reconciliations and process? Do you enjoy leveraging software tools to their maximum potential? Do you have good communications skills and are you passionate about learning? Do you hold yourself accountable and take great pride in your work – just like us? Then you'll love this job!

#What will set you up for success?

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business.
  • You have one to three years of experience in finance, accounting, or a relevant field (including co-ops).
  • You have strong accounting and financial reporting skills.
  • You have strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • You can effectively collaborate with other departments and contribute to cross-functional projects.
  • You can work effectively with deadlines.
  • You have a working knowledge of financial databases and software such as Quickbooks, Bill.com, Expensify and banking platforms.
  • You have strong Microsoft Excel skills.

#What you will receive?

We provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our team members, including:

  • Competitive salary
  • Carried interest (i.e., a share in the profits from fund performance)
  • 401(k) and additional retirement plan benefits
  • Healthcare coverage
  • Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week-long winter break at the end of December
  • Paid parental leave and medical leave of up to 20 weeks; short and long term disability
  • Work from home office stipend and cell phone stipend

Operations are headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts but we primarily work from home with the expectation of semi-monthly travel to the Boston office.
