Job Details

SUMMARY

  • The role of the Environmental Specialist is to oversee the environmental function of the Savannah facility. This will be accomplished by exercising practical business knowledge to ensure both regulatory and company requirements are implemented. The Environmental Specialist must work with others to assure the environmental program's requirements are fulfilled.

FUNCTIONS
  • Provide environmental compliance, risk management and project management leadership to the facility.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Sugar SHE leadership, regulators, customers, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding facility environmental matters
  • Develop and monitor environmental CAPEX expenditures and budgets.
  • Audit and assess environmental processes; and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and oversee routing environmental compliance activities, such as SPCC,
  • SWPPP, NPDES, air emissions, groundwater withdrawal, Tier II, lime products, etc.
  • Manage the Facility's wastewater disposal process, to include compliance with all parameters set by external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the facility's strategy, processes, and resources are aligned with the company's vision and plan.
  • Ensure that adequate resources are identified for regulatory compliance and risk management activities.
  • Negotiate permit and minor enforcement matters with regulators.
  • Monitor local environmental regulatory developments and implement appropriate response processes.
  • Establish and implement environmental data collection, provide analysis of processes to operations management.
  • Prepare routine environmental reports for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Continually develop environmental knowledge and competency, develop both federal and state regulatory expertise, and participate in local and state level environmental activities.

Company Environmental Primary Responsibilities

  • Is an active member of the facility SHE Program.
  • Maintains good working knowledge of environmental policies, rules, and procedures applicable to the area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.
  • Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.
  • Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses/Experience

Basic qualifications:

  • 4-year degree; preferably in environmental science, or engineering
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Must have a least 3-5 years of environmental management experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Comprehension of wastewater analysis, including COD, BOD, TSS, ph, O&G, and fecal coliform.
