Patient Registration Representative- Cashier Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Receives, records, deposits, and posts monies paid for hospital services provided from patients and/or third parties in accordance with established policies and procedures. Monies are received in the form of cash, check, and electronic transfers. Balances cash journals to receipts on a daily basis providing a summary of cash receipts activity by payor category.
+ Establishes unapplied and unidentified accounts to facilitate the deposit process in accordance with established policies and procedures when it is obvious bulk and other patient payment transactions cannot be processed on the date of receipt. Performs balancing and reconciliations for unapplied and unidentified accounts with appropriate accounting periods in accordance with established policies and procedures.
+ Prepares receipts and explanation of benefits statements/remittance advices to ensure prompt, accurate posting to patient-specific accounts accomplished through research, on line, to determine proper patient, account number, date of service, and processing codes. Communication with third-party payors may also be required to determine allocation of payments.
+ Performs data entry and computer transmission functions as appropriate within established policies and procedures to accurately post and record patient and third-party payments to proper accounts.
+ Corrects edit/error reports to unposted cash. Re-opens accounts, re-calls from bad debt and/or transfers payments as necessary to accurately post and record payment activity.
+ Maintains control logs for the receipt of third-party electronic claims/remittance transmissions. Verifies electronic remittance advices and/or transmissions conform with cash or check(s) received. Identifies and discrepancies notifying team leader and/or supervisor and appropriate third-party payors initiating corrective action.
+ Imports daily 835 electronic remittance files into the RMS database for denial tracking.
+ Adheres to the principles of the PFS corporate Compliance Handbook.
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required
+ High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-high school preferred.
+ + Requires a working knowledge of third-party reimbursement structures and programs.
+ Minimum one-year business office experience to be proficient in duties.
+ Accurate typing and working familiarity with CRT and PC applications.
