Job Summary:

The Natural Gas Risk Specialist is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and managing the risks associated with natural gas trading, transportation, and storage activities. This role involves monitoring market trends, assessing potential risks, implementing risk management strategies, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational risk policies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Control: monitor trade input and measure entries versus trader delegations; monitor input of derivative transactions
  • Assess Market Risk; analyze current and forward month position and MtM; prepare daily report and provide insight into changes
  • Monitor and report daily VaR; as needed, analyze result
  • Maintain consistent and open dialogue with the Trading teams
  • Experience with ETRM system; as needed, work with IT stakeholders to manage functionality
  • Perform forward curve validation
  • Ensure complex transactions are accurately captured
  • Work with other stakeholders to ensure analytical requests are met in a timely manner
  • Adapt quickly and demonstrate flexibility to changing demands
  • Self-motivated; able to complete tasks/projects with limited supervision
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of natural gas prices
  • Experience building Excel-based models to analyze data
  • Expert attention to detail, completing tasks in an accurate, timely manner


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of natural gas markets, trading strategies, and risk management techniques.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including proficiency in statistical analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment.
  • Experience with risk management software and analytics tools (e.g., VaR models, Monte Carlo simulation, stress testing).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, PRM, CFA) a plus.
  • Previous experience in natural gas trading, risk management, or energy industry preferred.
