PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and instrumentation used in health care delivery. To inspect and install medical and related technical equipment. To assist medical and nursing staff in the operation or use of equipment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation, such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, anesthesia apparatus used in diagnosis, monitoring, and treating physical ailments or dysfunctions.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections according to manufacturers or departmental procedures.
- Analyzes electronic equipment for causes of failure and isolates, tests, and replaces defective parts.
- Uses departmental computer and paper systems to maintain equipment records, and document failures, repairs, and inspections.
- Identifies potential hazards with medical devices during the course of service activity; works to resolve once identified.
- Assists in the investigation of incidents involving medical equipment.
- Evaluates vendor repairs and projects. Deals with manufacturers on repair work and parts needed for equipment repair and maintenance.
- Instructs medical/nursing staff concerning use and operation of biomedical equipment.
