Job Title: Kitchen Helper (Part Time)
Reports To: Culinary Services Coordinator.
The Kitchen Helper is responsible for fulfilling routine food services and other duties in the kitchen with supervision from the Chef and Cooks.
Kitchen Helpers are on their feet most of the time during their shift. They work under pressure at busy mealtimes. They may need to lift heavy equipment and work near an oven or grill. They may be assigned to carry trays, glassware and plates.
**Duties of a Kitchen Helper**
The main responsibility is to maintain and clean the kitchen area and assist the cooks with prep. The duties of a kitchen helper include a combination of the following:
- Responsible for keeping the floor area neat. They need to mop and sweep the floor.
- Keep everything in the kitchen areas clean and sanitized. The kitchen helper must wash the tables, utensils, counters, and other equipment in the kitchen that are used for food preparation. Wash and sanitize dishes in the 3-compartment sink and dishwasher area.
- Dispose of the trash on a regular basis. Replace garbage bags after the garbage is thrown and wash it too to make it clean and free from odor.
- Work with the cooks to prepare the meals.
- Assist the other kitchen staff in unloading shipment of foods and supplies that are needed in the kitchen.
- Assist servers with clearing, cleaning, re-setting dining room when necessary
- Arrange pans, pots and other kitchen utensils properly for ease in cooking.
