Lyon County has an opening for a full time CUSTODIAN. This is a non-exempt position with benefits including paid time off and health, dental, and vision insurance.

Hours will be from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. Prior custodial and floor equipment experience is preferred but we will train. High school diploma or GED required. Starting pay is $14.14/hr.

Successful candidate(s) will be required to pass a background check, pre-employment physical, pre-employment work screen and pre-employment drug screen.

Job Description:

  1. JOB SUMMARY: This is a non-exempt position. Under the supervision and direction of the facilities manager, the custodian is a non-exempt position. The duties performed will be skilled and semi-skilled. Work will involve the general upkeep of the Lyon County buildings exteriors, interiors, entrances, hallways, etc. Keep facility clean and in an orderly condition.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Duty to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that employee gets along with customers, citizens, coworkers, and management.

  1. Must show up for work on a regular and predictable basis as scheduled.
  1. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Duties consist of; but are not limited to the following:
    2. Sweep, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, office spaces, etc.
    3. Strips and refinishes the floors on all levels, cleans carpet as needed.
    4. Opens and secures the facility
    5. Cleans glass doors, windows window blinds, windows casings and wood fixtures, stair railings, etc.
    6. Cleans, disinfects the restrooms, drinking fountains, furniture, fixtures such as stair casings, baseboards, and ledges.
    7. Empties all waste into proper containers for pick-up.
    8. Notifies supervisor of need for maintenance on items found while working.
    9. Notifies supervisor of cleaning supplies needed/keep an inventory of supplies on hand sufficient to perform the job.
    10. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    11. Learn to follow safety rules and regulations while maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Requires current Class C drivers license.
    2. Experience: One to Two years of experience in the field is preferred, but not required.
    3. Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. Attendance of training courses in the related field is on a continuing basis.
    4. Knowledge: Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful.
    5. Technical Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical manuals relative to facilities maintenance. Ability to write reports and response to Facility Work Orders. Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    6. Supervisory: None
    7. Problem Solving: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and report to supervisor.
    8. Decision Making: Decision making is a factor of departmental level importance in this position.
    9. Financial/Budgetary: Responsible for efficient use of all equipment, facilities, and materials used for custodial purposes. Little to no economical purchasing, or annual budgeting.
    10. Personal Relations: The ability to communicate with the public in an effective manner, to establish a working relationship with other county and municipal offices and the ability to express oneself clearly and precisely, orally and in writing is essential.
    11. Working Conditions: Working conditions are inside and outside in moderate and extreme conditions.
    12. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee is infrequently required to climb or balance. Employee is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and / or remove up to 15 pounds, frequently lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job are close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision and the ability to adjust and focus. While performing duties to this job, employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
