Principal Consultant - Environmental


Job Details

We have partnered with a global consulting and engineering leader who is looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant who will work with interdisciplinary teams to execute project tasks, develop permitting strategies, conduct environmental impact assessments and mitigation planning, and ensure regulatory compliance across solar, energy storage, wind, transmission, and green hydrogen projects.


Candidate can be located anywhere in Southwest (TX, NM, CO, NV, UT, AZ).


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project tasks, develop permitting strategies, conduct environmental impact assessments, and plan for mitigation, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide senior-level expertise in environmental management and permitting, offering mentorship to junior environmental scientists.
  • Advise internal teams and clients on federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, staying updated on governance and regulatory frameworks affecting projects.
  • Develop strategies for engaging permitting agencies, representing clients in meetings with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), regulatory bodies, investment agencies, and other stakeholders as needed for datacenter development.
  • Lead or support renewable energy project development and delivery, including proposals, project management, client relations, senior reviews, and team training.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, Plans of Development, mitigation plans, and construction monitoring plans, ensuring accuracy and compliance in environmental compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record retention.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental permitting efforts with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Provide technical and logistical support to field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Attend and facilitate stakeholder meetings and public hearings.
  • Support various business lines in meeting their environmental project mandates.
  • Contribute to workforce planning by identifying required skillsets and capabilities to support current and future market strategies.
  • Actively participate in the professional development of department employees to maintain expertise in environmental diligence in the US.
  • Travel nationally as required by project demands.
  • Share knowledge and experiences with team members, supporting their professional development.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Biology, Ecology, or related field; Master s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of consulting experience supporting environmental permitting projects.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, client relationship management, and interaction with regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to manage complex programs or projects with multiple interfaces.
  • Strong business development skills with a track record of developing project opportunities and maintaining client relationships.
  • Established experience coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, and environmental technical staff.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety standards.
  • Knowledge of major federal statutes and implementing regulations (e.g., NEPA, FERC, USACE).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to engage various stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare high-quality, concise documents conveying project progress, status, and financial information.
