Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking applications for a Maintenance Worker II for the night shift.

About the Opportunity:

As the Maintenance Worker II for the night shift you will function as a team leader to provide a variety of support services to maintain the interior appearance of institutional buildings and the exterior appearance of the grounds surrounding these buildings. You will assign and direct work assignments as operational needs dictate with some judgment required to interpret instructions. You will also be the first point of contact for Facilities issues on Saturday & Sunday.

What you'll do:

  • Assists the management team in overseeing, guiding, and assisting maintenance workers in completing their operational assignments. Will assist in training new employees. Function as a team leader in meeting the operational needs of the department to include the following: inspection of facilities, write work orders, oversee adherence to departmental policies, inventory of supplies, receive deliveries, will act as liaison with faculty, staff, and other customers, assist in record keeping, checking building for security, performing office duties, monitors activities of outside vendors, assists in managing key control and assist in resolving unforeseen problem related to the department's mission.
  • Relocates offices and classrooms within buildings and throughout campus by lifting, loading and unloading furniture, files cabinets, boxes, etc. onto hand trucks, dollies, and box vans for transportation. May require removing desk components, doors, and shelves to ease in relocations.
  • Moves, sets-up, rearranges, and erects tables, chairs, platforms, bleachers, tents, displays, etc. for concerts, registration, commencement, and other special events. Disassembles and stores items at the end of event.
  • Review requests for set-ups. Move tables, chairs, AV, or any other items necessary for campus event or program. Clean up afterwards and move furniture back to storage room.
  • Cleans and maintains the surrounding exterior appearance of all institutional buildings by raking, removing and disposing of leaves and debris; cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage areas; sweeping, shoveling, and removing snow, ice, slush, and mud from entryways and sidewalks; spreading salt and cinders on public passageways; washing graffiti from exterior walls and sidewalks; and performing other related external cleaning activities.
  • May be required to operate various hand and power tools in the performance of duties such as: rakes, shovels, lawn mowers, weed-eaters, etc.
  • Cleans and maintains the interior appearance of all buildings including classrooms, offices, laboratories, student housing, public areas, etc. by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets, rugs, and upholstery; dusting and polishing furniture; washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows (inside and out), washing graffiti from walls, lockers, bathroom stalls and doors, and performing other related internal cleaning activities.
  • Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and kitchenettes including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, refrigerators, stoves, fixtures, mirrors, etc.
  • Change light bulbs, if the bulbs are not the problem, create a work order for others to repair.
  • Plunge toilets and floor drains as needed to unclog the drains and allow water flow.
  • Replenishes supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap. May be requires unloading and storing supplies and to rotate stock and to obtain appropriate signatures on deliveries.
  • Operates walk-behind and riding scrubbers, high-speed burnishers, etc. Mixes and dilutes commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required. Follows established safety procedures in the use of equipment and materials; locking and unlocking doors, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms as directed by the supervisor. Moves equipment, chairs, tables, etc. to other floors using dollies, carts, etc. on elevators or stairways.
  • May be required to operate various hand and power tools in the performance of duties such as: dollies, hand trucks, etc.
Qualifications
  • Completion of vocational/technical training in a maintenance field of up to 18 months beyond high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minumum of two (2) years of experience in general building experience.
  • Knowledge of building trades.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to follow OSHA guidelines and associated codes.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, parts, and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain average or above work standards.
  • Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to rapidly learn all policies and procedures impacting the affected area.
  • Ability to organize workflow to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to operate a state vehicle.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC, systems.
  • Ability to follow safety requirements and use proper safety equipment.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance such as changing filters, replacing light bulbs, and cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Ability to follow specific directions on a general task.
  • Ability to use chemicals such as penetrating oil, glue, coil cleaner, paints, thinners, and lubricants.
  • Ability to handle/install insulating and filtration materials.
  • Ability to assist higher level trades technicians in facility repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate power tools such as saws, drills, and jackhammers.
  • Ability to erect and work from scaffold, ladders, and man lifts.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping duties on the job site and in the shop.
  • Ability to clean and maintain tools.
Requirements
  • A Valid Driver's License.
  • Working on ladders at varying heights.
  • Working with hazardous chemicals or waste.
  • Climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crawling.
  • Carrying, dragging, and lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Work under adverse temperature and/or weather conditions.
  • Working in confinded areas.
