Litigation Counsel (REMOTE)


Job Details

Our client is an insurance company that is seeking an experienced Litigation Counsel to join a growing team that practices in the defense of property, casualty, and insurance coverage litigation in California. The ideal candidate will have experience defending personal injury, wrongful death, bodily injury, subrogation, first-party property damage, coverage litigation, employment practices, and insurance coverage disputes. This is a completely remote position with minimal travel requirements. This role offers robust benefits and has no billable hours.

Responsibilities:

  • In this role you will defend litigation in a specified region of California, with occasional travel for case appearances, and have uncapped case value.
  • You will be responsible for handling all assigned litigation and legal matters for the company and its policy holders
  • Litigation work will include case analysis, preparation of motions, pleadings, discovery, conducting depositions, hearings, trials, appeals and communicating with the claims department.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to present a controversy from inception through trial or appeal and sustain independent professional judgement
  • Litigation Counsel will work on personal injury (including catastrophic injury and wrongful death) cases, coverage disputes, and commercial property, representing corporate and nonprofit entities as well as individuals.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to meetings, training, legislative updates, writing articles and publications, EUOs, SIU investigation, and other corporate legal functions.
  • Ability to work remotely from home with little or no direct supervision and accomplish responsibilities and goals in line with the role

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in California.
  • A J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Seven or more years of insurance defense litigation experience is required.
  • Trial experience is strongly preferred.
  • Admitted to or eligible for admission to federal court.
  • Able to efficiently handle high-value case load with little to no direct supervision.
  • Prior in-house experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel as necessary
  • CPCU or insurance-related designation a plus.
