Overview

The Patient Safety Attendant under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, is responsible for providing generalized support services in accordance with the Nursing Plan of Care and Medical/Surgical Standards of Care and Practice. S/he must follow all policies/procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare. S/he performs other duties, as assigned or directed, that are within the scope and abilities of the individual's training. The PSA may interact with patients and/or families, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Responsibilities

Patient Care* Communicates patient/family needs and/or concerns to the collaborative healthcare team.

* Assists with ambulation of stable patients, if appropriate, under the direction/supervision of the RN.

* Uses an interactive approach to keep patients safe and occupied (i.e. play cards, read books, write notes, etc.)

* Receives and assists in the setup of patient food trays and snacks under the direct supervision of the RN.

Reporting and Documentation* Receives report from RN and/or off-going patient safety attendant at the start of shift.

* Gives report to RN and oncoming patient safety attendant before relinquishing responsibilities.

* Keeps RN informed of any changes in patient behaviors/status.

Compliance/Safety* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Ensure the rooms to which you are assigned are kept clean, comfortable and safe for the patient and families.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the VigiLanz tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

EducationHigh School Diploma or GED- Required

Certification & LicensuresBLS (American Heart Association)- Required

Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire

Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire

ExperienceHealthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
