    Duties
  • Determine the correct repair method for different types of metals such as brazing, soldering and welding.
  • Utilize specification guideline such as Technical Manuals, directives, etc. to ensure safety regulation are followed.
  • Install all metal roofing, siding, and flashing with screws or bolts to ensure installed items are secured.
  • Operate welding equipment such as wire and oxygen acetylene welders to reshape, replace, or repair items being worked.
  • Responsible for testing all items such as tools, materials, and equipment before releasing.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter.

  • This position is subject to Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel up to 10%, and may be subject to (TDY) on short notice CONUS.
  • Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years.
  • Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

  • Position may be converted to permanent without further competition if an authorized space becomes available.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Building Mechanic without more than normal supervision duties includinginstalling ventilating systems including suction blowers and exhaust fans for proper ventilation of buildings. I can laying out required material to perform work on framework and utilizing common tools of the trade such as wrenches, pliers, vice scripts, fanning combs, body hammers, and egg necks and managing the disposing of hazardous materials in according with regulation guidelines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
  • Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc)
  • Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)
  • Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
  • Physical Efforts-Works from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and platforms in tiring and uncomfortable positions, where parts or assembles are in hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, and climbs. Lift items weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Working Conditions-Works both inside, in well heated, lighted, and ventilated areas and outside in varied weather. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, fumes, asbestos, and noise, and the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, scraps, electrical shock, and falls from ladders, scaffolds, rooftops, etc. Wears protective clothing and equipment when required.
