The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a talented individual to oversee food production at DEC Camp Colby in Saranac Lake, NY.
Schedule:
June 30 through August 16 (7 weeks)
Sunday dinner - Friday Lunch
40 hours a week
Housing available, if desired, for full 7 weeks
Specific duties include, but not limited to:
Planning, cooking and serving (70-80 people) for all camp meals
Prepares menus and meals in consultation with camp supervisor
Is responsible for the proper storage and record keeping of all food items
Prepares weekly orders within a strict budget in conjunction with central office staff
Understand and address nutritional dietary needs of campers
Maintains all kitchen and dining hall supplies, materials and equipment
Supervise & manage of staff and volunteers working in the kitchen
Requirements:
2 years of experience in the storage, preparation, cooking, and dispensing of food
Associate's or higher degree in a culinary field will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience
Must be neat, reliable, punctual, flexible and responsible.
Must be familiar with New York State Department of Health (DOH) Regulations pertaining to storage, preparation and serving food.
A valid driver's license is preferred
Benefits:
$19.85/hour plus room and board, if desired, for a maximum 40-hour work week
Room and board, if desired.
This is a civil service position, so employees have the option to join the CSEA union and the NYS retirement fund.
For the right cook, this can be a reoccurring summer position.
