Associate Veterinarian

Job Details

Coffey's Veterinary Center is a privately owned practice that has been serving our local community for over 30 years. We pride ourselves on having the most comprehensive in-house diagnostics in our region and a large variety of treatment options to suit a large variety of clients. Our practice offers routine and emergency care, which offers our staff a dynamic balance of unique, intense, and mundane experiences throughout the day. We are primarily a small-animal practice (dogs and cats) with occasional exoics and small livestock (pygmy goats and potbelly pigs). Our medical staff work together as a cohesive unit (as opposed to a role hierarchy). We have a high patient load due to the quality of our care (>3,000 patients seen per year) and we are expanding our practice. We are seeking new staff for our main office as well as a new location. The new location will be over 10,000 sqft and is expected to provide even more services than our main office. What are we looking for? We are seeking licensed veterinarians to join our team as Associate Veterinarians. Both recent graduates and experienced doctors are encouraged to apply. We need someone who can work as a member of a larger team, adapt to our pre-existing company culture, and care for our patients with as much compassion as if they were their own pets. Our practice quickly embraces new veterinary technology and innovative techniques, and we desire doctors who are willing and excited to adapt and master new treatment options when they become available. What do our employees love about working here? Our employees report that they enjoy the camaraderie and collaborative environment. We strive to empower employees that want to learn more by giving them hands-on training. Teamwork is highly valued and competition is discouraged. Our employees also appreciate our willingness to go above and beyond for our patients, whether that be by embracing new treatment options or by providing financial assistance so that pets can get the care they need. Our employees appreciate that they don't have to turn people away when their pet is in medical trouble. Our employees also enjoy the large variety of unique cases such as: reversal of paralysis via stem cell therapy, removal of 8lb ovarian tumor, colon cancer removed via rectal pull-through, bilateral femoral shaft fracture, persistent right aortic arch, varying degrees of gunshot wounds, and various GI foreign bodies of every shape, size, and material. These cases keep our practice interesting while routine vaccines, spay/neuter, and wellness exams provide stability. We also offer pretty flexible work hours, which is often praised by our employees with young children. What are some challenges our employees face? Emergency medicine is inherently stressful, and taking emergencies on top of routine appointments can make balancing work schedules challenging. We have a very large case load for an office of our size (we average 25-30 patients per day). Employees that can adjust quickly and multi-task find it easier to excel in our office. Our staff can also face challenges with clientelle, as owner attitudes can range wildly from apethetic to distrusting to overbearing. Employees with good people-skills, empathy, and patience find it easier to engage with clients. What will my responsibilities be? Associate Veterinarians will be expected to work under the direction of Dr. Coffey as the practice owner, and will undergo a period of orientation to ensure client expectations are met across all staff. Following orientation, Associate Veterinarians will be expected to assume leadership roles in patient care, which requires using the experiences, suggestions, and assistance of other medical staff. It is expected that veterinarians, technicians, and assistants consistantly work together as a cohesive unit for the benefit of the patient. Veterinarians approve diagnostic tests, approve / prescribe treatment plans, and perform surgery - as well as any other tasks required for efficient and effective patient care. If you are specialized in a specific branch of veterinary medicine, or wish to focus your efforts in a specific branch of veterinary medicine, please include those details in your application, as our second location is expected to be large enough to comfortably use specialized doctors. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $40 - $80 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
