Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Plumber to perform installation, repairs and preventative maintenance of plumbing and piping systems throughout the site, while adhering to established safety and plumbing regulations. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide hands-on technical expertise for day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical fluid-moving equipment in a safe, cost-effective manner while ensuring good housekeeping and an excellent guest experience.
  • Planning and organizing daily tasks, ordering materials, and prioritizing individual assigned work orders
  • Performing day-to-day maintenance and system checks to diagnose and repair problems with the operation of various systems and components such as fountains, potable water, stormwater, sanitary/sewer, indoor and outdoor irrigation, natural gas, propane, fuel oil distribution and usage equipment, compressed air, hot water and steam/condensate, and water chemistry
  • Ensuring a broad range of building material function as designed with integrated components that may be historic.
  • This position is subjected to after hour call-ins for emergency work as well as a base schedule of four 10-hour days on a modified second-shift for two months and a standard five-day first shift for 10 months.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A completed apprenticeship program or willingness to complete one
  • 2 - 4 years of demonstrated field experience, commercial plumbing experience is a plus!
  • A valid drivers license
  • Ability to climb and work at heights on ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand and sit for extended periods of time, enter confined spaces, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience operating the tools of the trade and to work with other trades
  • Familiarity with email, internet, and Microsoft Office products
  • Strong decision-making, communication, analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of BOCA/IBC, National Mechanical Code, National Plumbing Code, and OSHA 1910S Safety Standards, as well as the ability to read P&ID, construction as-built drawings, and building prints is desired.
