BASIC PURPOSE/SCOPE

The Maintenance Apprentice is intended to develop and learn maintenance skills to become a Maintenance Mechanic to ensure effective equipment functioning. Once graduating from program, he becomes proficient at performing equipment inspections, identifying defective parts and components, providing preventive maintenance as well as troubleshooting bakery equipment to execute maintenance/mechanical repair:

  • The Maintenance Apprentice will focus on completing all required coursework to attain minimum requirements of Maintenance skillsets within a specified amount of time. (Much of the course work is "On-Line")
  • They will work with Qualified Maintenance Mechanics to attain OJT and develop practical skills within a specified amount of time.
  • The Maintenance Apprentice will work towards milestones set forth by Maintenance Leadership.
  • This will be the first step to grow as a Maintenance Mechanic towards higher levels within the progression path.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Learn company policies including safety rules, procedures, LOTO, GMP's, personal safety standards, food safety standards as well as basic OSHA standards.
  • Learn / identify / perform how to use all power tools, hand tools, grinder, drill presses, band saw, shop tools, etc.
  • Learn identify and use basic measuring tools for mechanical repair (Ex:Calipers, Micrometers, Verniers).
  • Learn metal welding.
  • Learn training for use of Forklift & Scissor lift.
  • Learn & assist with equipment change overs and line startups, mechanical troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Learn how to read and interpret mechanical prints/drawings/equipment manuals.
  • Learn how to identify potential energy risks and take to a safe/zero energy state.
  • Learn how to identify and correctly disposition chemicals and lubricants process in mechanical PM and repairs.
  • Learn lubrication practices in order to avoid over lube and ensuring correct lube quantity into equipment.
  • Learn basic plumbing/piping circuits.
  • Learn to replace sprocket/chains, belts, hoses, clutches, coupling, all types of bearings, brakes, seals, gaskets and drive components as needed.
  • Learn to repair/replace mechanical components on motors, pumps, mixers, conveyor lines, ovens, coolers, gearboxes.
  • Learn basic compressed air circuits.
  • Learn to perform mechanical tasks of preventive maintenance on bakery equipment.
  • Learn & assist in mechanical inspection and upkeep of machinery and equipment.
  • Learn how to identify mechanical parts into equipment and follow process for check out parts and inventory cycle counts.
  • Learn and become proficient at completing and documenting work orders on equipment through CMMS.
  • Learn how to ensure equipment plant is maintained, guarded and operated in accordance with defined safety regulations and procedures.
  • Understand levels of line downtime and waste caused by equipment issues and associated points of cause.
  • Learn & develop how to participate in root cause problem solving by team.
  • Learn to identify potential cost savings and cost avoidance.
  • Learn about Interpersonal Skills.

Position Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Fluent in English oral & written.
  • Pass required exam/test for acceptance into Apprenticeship program.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime as scheduled.
  • Able to self-learning by looking through manuals, videos, etc Able to attain basic Maintenance skills.
  • Able to attain basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work off ground level with proper safety training and safety equipment.
  • Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
  • Practical problem-solving oriented.
  • Teamwork oriented.
  • Already know about bakery equipment operation or able to learn how to operate them.

Preferred

  • Experience in a bakery.
