The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking junior laborers for immediate employment in the Chicagoland area. The main function of these positions will be to assist in the cleanup and maintenance of State of Illinois roadways. The ideal candidate will have one year of previous work experience, be punctual and be willing to start immediately. Job Responsibilities

30%

Works from a labor pool assignment. Performs arduous manual labor in relation to preservation and upkeep of state highways.

* Paints and repairs picnic tables.

* Digs post holes and sets posts.

* Repairs guard fences.

* Cleans bridges of debris and graffiti.

* Chips, scales and cleans steel bridges.

* Moves barricades.

Job responsiblities continued

30%

Performs manual labor.

* Assists with cutting grass, weeds and brush.

* Assists with cleaning culverts, drains and ditches.

* Assists with sweeping, raking and hauling of debris.

* Assists with loading and unloading of trucks.

* Lifts, carries and moves large planters weighing over 50 pounds.

15%

Washes, greases and assists in the maintenance and servicing of traffic and maintenance equipment.

10%

Assists in the maintenance of fuel, oil and repair records in the district sign shop.

10%

Serves as flagman with a maintenance crew.

5%

Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight years elementary school.

Conditions of Employment

Requires successful completion of a background investigation.

Requires the ability to perform arduous labor.

Requires the ability to lift, carry and transport 50 pounds or more.

Requires the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.

Requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Work Hours: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM Monday - Friday

Work Location: Multiple locations in the Chicagoland area
