Job Description
The Lead Technician oversees and provides direction for the Sterile Processing Technicians to assure proper procedures are followed.
Responsibilities
Assist in investigation of problem areas or complaints concerning intra and interdepartmental operation
Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Health The Joint Commission OSHA CDC AAMI and AORN standards
Assure departmental standards of practice are being followed by staff related to instrumentation sterilization
Communicates necessary and pertinent information to co-workers reporting to duty on the next shift
Demonstrates proficiency and ability to oversee basic competency in multi-complex instrumentations
Empowers and motivates team members delegates tasks effectively by providing direction and assistance
Examine sterilization records for compliance with standards
Frequently participates in meeting unscheduled unit needs
Insures accuracy of sterilizer monitoring tools
Insures all assigned staff are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment are being worn in the decontamination area
Monitors and inspects instruments for bioburden
Provides assistance in training new staff members as assigned
Readily shares new knowledge with peers
Seeks opportunities to learn multi-specialties
Suggest and actively participates in process improvement projects
Utilizes and oversees correct practices in handling sterile supplies
Works with the Director of Central Service in developing quality monitors in-service programs and orientation programs

Qualifications
Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
Required Experience: Two (2) years of responsible Sterile Processing experience and progressive work experiences in Sterile Processing and adult education learning and development positions if don't have current CRCST certification OR one (1) years of responsible Sterile Processing experience and progressive work experiences in Sterile Processing and adult education learning and development positions if already have current CRCST certification.
Required Certifications and Licensures: Certified Central Service Technician or must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire date into this position.
Must have comprehensive knowledge and experience in surgical instrumentation, microbiology as it relates to Sterile Processing and OR, cleaning procedure, disinfection, sterilization, and the care, handling, disassembly of hospital equipment and surgical instruments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree
