Besse Forest Products Group - part of Hoffmann Family of Companies, a leading manufacturer of quality Northern hardwood veneer, lumber, and plywood, operates successful sawmills and veneer mills in Northern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We currently employ around 350 dedicated team members.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Procurement Forester to join our dynamic team. This key role focuses on the acquisition of sawlogs and veneer logs primarily from the Ladysmith, Wisconsin region.
Responsibilities:
• Source and purchase sawlogs and veneer logs adhering to Besse's stringent quality standards and purchasing processes.
• Build and sustain robust relationships with timber suppliers to ensure a reliable and consistent log supply.
• Manage log inventory using handheld data recorders and tagging systems to maintain accurate and efficient tracking.
• Stay informed of market trends and developments within the forestry sector to adapt strategies effectively.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a strong focus on quality and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
• A degree in Forestry is preferred. Significant hands-on experience and additional training in the forestry sector may also be considered.
• At least 3 years of experience in buying, grading, and scaling hardwood logs is preferred.
• Proven expertise in timber cruising, stumpage sales appraisal, and log valuation.
• Independent and proactive work style, with a demonstrable track record of achieving goals.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
• Proficiency in using computer software including Email, Excel, Word, and specialized log scaling programs.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively in a company-provided vehicle.
• Residency in or willingness to relocate to the Goodman, Wisconsin area is highly desirable.
