Job Description:

Prepare, facilitate, and assist in managing LSU Museum of Art's Neighborhood Arts Project, a community-based mobile arts outreach program. Tasks include the execution, coordination, and daily management of NAP programming, working collaboratively with other NAP Counselors and volunteers, traveling by car between the LSU MOA and NAP sites, dispersing and collecting surveys, and maintaining supply inventories. Enthusiasm for working with children of all ages, the ability to coordinate multiple activities and duties within a team, the willingness to work outdoors in Louisiana summers, quick thinking and problem-solving, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. are essential to this active arts instruction position. Pay is hourly, commensurate with experience.
The NAP Counselor works up to 20 hours a week, for 8 weeks.

Requirements:
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Experience working with children, particularly in the 5-12 range.
At least 2.5 semesters of completed undergraduate coursework, current graduate students preferred.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in order to move art materials and pop-up tents, tables, and project bins.
An understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban community.

DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Art teaching experience working with children of all ages, particularly those in the 5-12 range.
Fluency in Spanish (preferred skill; not required).

NAP Program Overview:
NAP brings art-making activities directly into at least four local urban neighborhoods and the LSU MOA. Activities are facilitated in pop-up tents set up at four or more sites four days a week. The program is facilitated with counselors who are trained, supervised, and managed by LSU MOA and a NAP Lead Counselor. The structure may vary at any point due to City, State, and University guidance. All activities are pre-organized and developed to accommodate different ages, levels, and abilities. Materials and supplies are transported by NAP Counselors daily to each site.

Essential Job Duties:
1) Learn program content:
a. Lesson plans are designed and prepped each week to accommodate up to 300 students. Supplies for these activities should be prepared and sorted in bins according to lesson plans.
2) Assist with supply management and inventory.
3) Assist in the training, mentoring, and supervision of volunteers and partnering NAP Counselors.
4) Assist with packing the van, setting up, breaking down, and cleaning each site, packing the van, and restocking and cleaning supplies daily.
6) Train partnering NAP Counselors and volunteers on each lesson, modeling behavior and activities, and suggesting ways to adapt.
7) Assist in management of program delivery, troubleshooting, and managing participant flow through stations.
8) Participate in ALL activities, including set up, clean up, and loading the van.
9) Serve as emergency contact for program.
10) Track participation rates and demographical information.
11) Perform and collect site evaluations with participants, volunteers, and site partners at end of program.
12) Attend ALL required trainings (in person) with Big Buddy, the Mayor-President's Office, and the LSU MOA.
13) Maintain a daily time sheet of hours worked.
14) Conduct yourself as a representative of the LSU MOA, behaving in a professional manner that reflects the values of LSU.

Additional Duties:
1) Take photos to track and document the program.
2) Work with LSU MOA staff to provide timely and accurate information for press requests, social media, or interviews.
3) Distribute program fliers.
