Library Media Specialist - 25-26 School Year

Duties

* Plans and implements instructional programs in accordance with the district's philosophy and curricular objectives; adheres to approved policies and procedures of the district

* Creates and implements procedures for library media center operations including, but not limited to, planning and evaluation, budgeting, access, student and teacher use, instruction, services, facilities, and collection development (selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, inventory, weeding)

* Develops and maintains a diversified library collection of print, non-print, and electronic resources to support curricular needs, the development of student literacy and the interests of the students using up-to-date review sources and selection practices

* Maintains circulation systems for library, professional and curriculum materials

* Assists in the supervision of library media staff and in the selection and supervision of volunteers and student assistants

* Schedules the library media facilities for instruction and student use

* Maintains library media center's computer and multimedia resources (hardware, software, peripherals and electronic resources) and communicates with technicians to resolve technical issues

* Reinforces classroom instruction in accordance with the school improvement needs

* Promotes student and staff reading for information and pleasure; maintains a library culture that encourages appreciation of literature and a variety of genres; supports school reading incentive programs; provides readers' advisory for students and staff

* Collaborates with classroom teachers in the preparation, presentation and execution of units or assignments that utilize information resources

* Assists students and staff with strategies for intellectual access to information and ideas for learning (finding, judging and using information) that they can use within and beyond school settings

* Provides instruction for students and staff in the access and the use of print and electronic resources

* Provides information and instruction in areas of information literacy, Acceptable Use Policy, ethical use of information, intellectual property and copyright and use of educational technologies

* Promotes the integrated use of technology as a teaching and learning tool; models instructional strategies and coaches staff members in the integration of technology and information literacy skills

* Communicates and collaborates with the district's technology department and district curriculum committees as assigned

* Participates as a learner and teacher in district wide meetings, in-service, and committees; participates in educational and professional activities and associations

* Run various Library clubs including: Fiction Addiction Book Club; Graphic, Anime, Comic, and Manga Enthusiast Book Club; HubsREAD Podcast, Lego Club

* The above description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the skills and responsibility levels appropriate for this position.

Qualifications

* Meets current library information specialist endorsement requirements for the Illinois State Board of Education

* Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

* One or more years of experience as a Media Specialist (except in the case of a new college graduate)

* Preference includes a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with specialist qualifications as prescribed by the state of Illinois including coursework and/or background of work experience with hours that include library and information science, instructional technology, cataloging and reference work

* Applicants having classroom teaching experience are preferred

Salary/Benefits

Competitive Salary (base salary for 25-26 Masters $49,255-$90,953), full paid TRS, full single health insurance and dental, and $20,000 Term Life Insurance. Counselors also work approximately additional 15 days in the summer for additional pay. There will also be additional stipends available for extracurriculars.
