Position Overview

This position repairs and maintains county owned properties and facilities. Grade 20
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs plumbing repairs and new installations.
  • Performs electrical repairs.
  • Maintains and repairs heating and air conditioning equipment and monitors all systems on computers.
  • Performs carpentry work, such as remodeling and building cabinets.
  • Installs and resets state road signs.
  • Directs and oversees safety of the crew in absence of crew leader.
  • Assists Emergency Management with logistics during and inclement weather or emergency situations.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; five (5) years directly related experience; or Associate's degree and two (2) years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of standard carpentry construction, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Knowledge safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.??
  • Knowledge of general building and mechanical maintenance, service and repair.??
  • Knowledge of HVAC repair service and maintenance.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use and care of hand and machine tools employed in repair and adjustment work.?
  • Skill in various types of repair work including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and mechanical.?
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.?
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.?
  • Ability to work independently.?
  • Ability to make timely and sound decisions.?
  • Ability to adhere to all established safety standards and ensure such standards are not violated.?
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
