SUMMARY:

Operates both light and heavy equipment and performs routine, semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance and construction of streets, open space, summer flowers, parks, storm drainage systems, traffic control, signage, striping, landscaping, snow plowing, and City trash operations. Incumbents entering the class typically have limited related work experience and are closely supervised during training in the operations and procedures. Incumbents are expected to perform a wider range of work as training and experience are gained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performing equipment and/or manual operation in street maintenance and repair work; completing snow and ice removal from streets, gutters and City stairways; performing street sweeping and cleaning; constructing, repairing, maintaining, and cleaning drainage structures; inspecting and clearing obstructions from storm drains; measuring and lays out center lines, crosswalks and other line markings; operating a paint striper or spray gun in painting line markings on pavement; repairing, installing, and maintaining traffic control signs; completing trash removal and pickup from City receptacles; servicing and inspecting assigned equipment; maintaining service and operator use records; advising superintendent on operating conditions of equipment and progress of projects; reporting needed mechanical adjustment and repair; assisting with the equipment repair and maintenance program; performing grass cutting, weed removal, and landscaping; responding to after hour emergency calls; and performing other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Education and experience:

Requires high school diploma or GED; two years of related work experience; valid Colorado Class R driver s license with a safe driving record and the ability to obtain a Colorado Class A license with a Passenger Rating within two years of employment; Obtain flagger certification within six months of employment. Attend Co Ltap Road Scholar 1 classes and knowledge of traffic laws involved in light and heavy equipment operations; skilled in understanding and complying with verbal and written instructions and equipment manuals; skill in effectively communicating both verbally and in writing; the ability to learn materials, equipment, and tools used in street operations; the ability to read and interpret plans, maps, diagrams, and construction drawings; the ability to adapt to multiple demands or changing priorities, and accommodate emergencies; the ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds; the ability to serve on-call as required; and the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
