Maxar is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our team in San Jose, CA. In this role you will work with Software System Architects to design and develop software APIs that will be used to create emulators for validating the flight software embedded on commercial and civil satellites performing missions involving communication, earth observation, and lunar gateway activities.

Your Project: As a member of a team of Support Equipment Engineers, you will be working with requirements, developing domain knowledge, and developing specialized test systems used for flight software validation and systems integration.
What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):
Collaborate with hardware and software leads to understand, capture, and execute on requirements and design specifications
Design, develop, and test hardware and software Application Programming Interfaces for use in Linux-based HWIL testbed applications
Support deployment and end-users, including creating/maintaining design documents, API documentation, configuration-management/continuous-integration systems, and real-time troubleshooting
Emphasis on hardware/software interfaces that are integrated into an end-to-end test system with closed-loop simulation capability
Minimum requirements for this position:
Must be a U.S. citizen
Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field. Four additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Minimum of 5 years of experience in low-level Linux system engineering, integration, and testing
Experience in Application Programming Interface design and development.
Experience with real-time (Preempt RT) Linux application development concepts (scheduling, IRQ management, etc.)
Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) concepts in C/C++
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in a related field
Professional experience developing software using modern Test-Driven Development conventions & best-practices
Experience in simulating electrical sensor and actuator signals. Test systems used for validating GN&C control system under closed-loop control
Experience in software modeling and simulation for various devices on space vehicle subsystems
Proficiency in electrical design and integration of hardware systems and support equipment (PCB, Harness, IC, Test Equipment)
Strong understanding of Linux kernel module development concepts and conventions
Experience with RTOS (VxWorks, Greenhills Integrity, Real-time Linux, FreeRTOS)
Experience with modern cloud-based Software Development Lifecycle Management & productivity tools/workflows (Amazon EKS/EC2/ECR etc., Microsoft Azure, Google CE)
Knowledge of legacy hardware and software
FPGA design experience
