About this job opportunity:

We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated Health Sciences Teacher to join our dedicated team! These professors will play a crucial role in one of our programs, which will run for 6 weeks from July 8th to August 23rd and is focused on supporting 10th and 11th grade minority and immigrant students for success in the fields of Medicine and Health and Sciences. In addition to the 8-week teaching commitment, the teacher will be expected to help with curriculum development and lesson planning before the program officially commences.

Position Summary:

As a tutor at The Pathway Initiative, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering the in-person curriculum for our 8-week program focused on hands-on High School Medical Academy. This is a 8-week program, starting tentatively on July 15th and concluding on August 23rd.. This position will be responsible for the in-person programming and will collaborate with our virtual health sciences teacher, as this is a hybrid program, with some in-person and some virtual activities. The position will work around 9-10 hours weekly, with in-person lessons taking place two days a week. Lessons will be delivered during the morning time, tentatively from 9:30am to 1.30pm. The office location is 89 South Street, Boston, 02111 (Nonprofit Center).

Key Responsibilities:


  1. Curriculum Development: Work collaboratively with TPI Program coordinators and the other teacher to design a cohesive and hands-on research curriculum, providing 10th-11th grade students with a holistic understanding of the subjects. Pre-program curriculum development assistance is expected.
  2. Course Delivery: Deliver engaging and interactive in-person lectures, workshops, and discussions, ensuring students are actively involved in the learning process.
  3. Assessment and Feedback: Support the development of fair and constructive assessment methods to evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback for improvement.
  4. Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the overall success of The Pathway Initiative and actively participate in weekly check-in meetings.

Qualifications:


Science Tutor:

The Science curriculum is mainly focused on chemistry, biology, and health sciences. The main goal is for students to work on developing a research project related to these disciplines and develop a final presentation.

The ability of the tutor to work with The Pathway Initiative all year would be preferred.

  • Requirements:
  • Equivalent of experienced Bachelors, Masters, or higher degree in a relevant field of Science (health sciences, Physics chemistry, biology).
  • Research experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in your field of study.
  • Experience teaching/facilitating in-person activities. At least 1 year of experience working with and teaching youth (high school age preferred)
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. (have a social security number).
  • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to commute to our office two days a week to deliver programming (office location: 89 South Street, Boston, 02111).

Overall skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Flexibility and fast learning mindset to adapt to changes.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred.
  • Lived experience relating to The Pathway Initiative s mission is an added bonus.

Schedule:


  • Program Duration: 8 weeks.
  • The program duration is 8 weeks, but we are looking for professors who are able to work with us with curriculum development and structure lesson plans before the program starts.
  • Tentative Start Date for the Program: July 8th, 2024.
  • Tentative End Date for the Program: August 23rd, 2024.
