Theseroles requireapplicants to be enrolled in the Central Background Registry and teacher-qualified, which means youve workedin astructuredchild careenvironment longenoughand/ortaken enough college-level courses in early childhood education-related subjectsto meettheOffice of Child Care requirements.

A ChildRootsTeacher works 8 hours per day, Monday Friday, offering primary care for 4 -10 children. A cornerstone of our educational philosophy is a strong, consistent bond between child and caregiver, so we encourage Teachers to commit to their cohort of children for a year or more. Apart from the joy and emotional satisfaction of committing to a classroom, we incentivize long-term commitments with annual bonuses.

Since we opened our first school in 2007, weve continually adapted our compensation strategy and learned that prospective andcurrentemployees alike value fair, predictable compensation.So, allChildRoots Teachers start at $19.50/hourand are eligible forstandardizedannual raises andlong-term commitmentbonuses. Some Portland-area centers offer higher starting wages for Lead Teachers but lower starting wages for Assistant Teachers, whereas were committed to a co-teaching model in which all Teachers start at the same rate and share teaching responsibilities.When you receive aChildRootsjob offer, you wont have to negotiate your wage or wonder how your offer compares to others.

To work with us, you must be teacher-qualified and currently enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry.

These easy, online trainings are required within 30 days of hire:

  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid Course
  • Oregon Food Handler's Card
  • Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety online course
  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect online course
  • Prevention is Better than Treatment online course
  • Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants online course
