This leading specialty chemicals business is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Director of Research & Development (R&D) to lead the R&D team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the specialty chemical industry, with a proven track record of driving innovation, managing complex projects, and leading cross-functional teams. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance technical expertise with business acumen to drive the company s growth and competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the R&D strategy aligned with the company s overall business objectives.
  • Identify emerging trends, technologies, and market opportunities to drive innovation and product development.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of R&D projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the desired technical and commercial specifications.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing R&D team.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the department.

Innovation and Development:

  • Drive the development of new products and the improvement of existing products.
  • Ensure the application of best practices in research methodologies and technologies.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other departments, including Marketing, Sales, and Production, to ensure alignment on product development goals.
  • Communicate R&D progress and outcomes to stakeholders, including the executive team and board of directors.

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Ensure all R&D activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and their impact on the company s products and processes.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the R&D budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to support strategic objectives.
  • Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where applicable.


Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D within the specialty chemical industry.
  • Proven track record of successful product development and innovation.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
