Maintenance Technician IV


Job Details

The purpose of this position is to work with maintenance personnel as well as contracted services personnel at the college campus. The primary objective of this position is to maintain school facilities, grounds and properties in a condition of optimal operating excellence so that full educational use of the facility may be attainable at all times.

$19.23 HOURLY

* Responsible for the coordination of the maintenance and upkeep of physical plant facilities with campus personnel during assigned projects

* Responsible for the safety of facilities during assigned projects and demonstrate and promote good safety practices

* Work well in an organized manner with attention to details

* Assist in the development of specifications related to contracted services, i.e., facilities, painting, landscaping, snow removal, etc. for all campuses in Lake County

* Responsible for performing various craft skills in the routine maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, such as, troubleshooting and making minor repairs to motors, pumps, air compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, heating and air conditioning units, perform wiring, plumbing and carpentry tasks

* Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics and operate power tools, both stationary and portable

* Coordinate and work with room scheduler in regards to planned maintenance projects

* Assist and coordinate emergency repairs to buildings and mechanical equipment

* Assist in structural repairs and renovation to buildings both interior and exterior;

* Perform and/or coordinate outside grounds maintenance including snow removal, landscaping and lot cleanups

* Assist in maintaining computer control systems (HVAC, Security, etc.)

* Respond to emergency requests

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

* High School Diploma or GED required

* Valid driver's license

* Technical expertise in the area of electrical, heating/air, plumbing, mechanical and basic carpentry

* Ability to work alone as well with others

* Initiative and ability to work without supervision, when required

* Good attendance and punctuality a must

* Previous facilities maintenance experience or comparable construction/industrial experience

* Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

* Familiar with building, plumbing and electrical codes

* Ability to plan and estimate time and materials

* Ability to work varied schedules including Saturdays and evenings, as well as overtime

* Strong working knowledge of Building Maintenance Management programs

* Willingness to pursue additional training as necessary

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume

* Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

LANGUAGE SKILLS

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

* Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally

REASONING ABILITY

* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

* The employee must have the ability to operate and work from mechanical lifts

* The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.

* The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

* The employee will occasionally work irregular or extended hours and will frequently work alone.

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally very loud.
