Job purpose
Lifeguards work closely with slide attendants in the safe operation of our slides and water attractions for the enjoyment of our guests. If you are committed to safety, have a sharp eye, love the water, have a Lifeguard Certification, and enjoy taking part in making the day fun for our guests, then Splashtown is for you!
Duties and responsibilities
Maintain a safe attraction
- Perform pre-operation safety checks at the opening of the ride and after any power failure or emergency shutdown.
- Understand and follow all emergency protocols.
Monitor and enforce the safety of riders during all aspects of slide operation
- Monitor slide and pools continuously while in operation.
Follow all policies and procedures of slide operation
- Monitor pools for guests clearing the exit of a slide.
- Maintain focus and operate the attraction using designated controls as instructed in an efficient manner.
- Close attraction during weather, other safety shut downs, and at park closing time.
- Communicate with unit 1 or supervisor using a portable radio as necessary.
Provide and maintain a safe, fun, and clean guest friendly atmosphere.
- Monitor pools and slide run-outs for any guest in trouble.
- Rescue or provide assistance to any guests as needed.
- Provide assistance to guests needing medical attention until a park EMT arrives. Assist EMS as needed.
- Be attentive to guests needs.
- Be able to assist guests or find someone that can.
Comply with all policies and procedures of Funtown Splashtown USA
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Department
- Maintain professional appearance following all uniform guidelines.
- Attend all required department, interdepartmental, and park trainings.
- You may be assigned to other duties as necessary.
Lifeguards may also fill slide attendant positions as needed.
- All duties and responsibilities of that position apply in those instances.
QualificationsIn compliance with the State of Maine and slide manufacturer guidelines applicant must be at least 16 years old to operate water attractions here at Funtown Splashtown USA.
Lifeguard Certified required and CPR certification preferred
A successful applicant will have strong communication skills and a friendly, positive attitude who is able to work alone and as part of a team.
Working conditionsWhile we do our best to provide shaded areas for our employees to be in, it is impossible to guarantee this at all times of the day. You may be in direct/indirect sunlight for long periods of time. We operate in most summer weather conditions and since you are outside and Maine weather is unpredictable we ask that you dress appropriately and are prepared for light to heavy rain, changes in temperature, and humidity.
We also suggest that you always come prepared with snacks, meals, and a water bottle full of water (we will refill water as much as needed for you).
Select job duties may require an attendant to work with gas or oil.
Most attractions require Lifeguard to work in or around chlorinated water.
Physical requirementsApplicant should be able to sit or stand for long periods of time while occasionally walking short distances.
Select attractions may require the ability to lift or push 30 to 50 lbs.
