Job Description: Brake Press Operator

Position Title: Brake Press Operator

Department: Manufacturing/Production

Reports To: Production Supervisor/Manager

Pay Rate: $18.00/hr. - $22.00/hr.

Shift: 1st

Summary:

The Brake Press Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of brake press machines to bend, form, and shape metal sheets and plates according to specifications. The ideal candidate should have a keen eye for detail, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation:
    • Set up and operate brake press machines to perform bending, forming, and shaping operations.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules to determine machine settings and specifications.
    • Adjust machine settings, such as ram stroke, back gauge positions, and tool selection, to ensure precision and accuracy.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards using calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
    • Make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and minimize waste.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Perform routine maintenance on brake press machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve machine malfunctions and production issues in a timely manner.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Comply with company policies and regulations, including quality standards and production schedules.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including quantities produced, machine settings, and maintenance performed.
    • Report any issues, deviations, or potential improvements to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous experience operating brake press machines or other metal forming equipment is preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
    • Proficiency in using measuring tools and equipment.
    • Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate angles, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift, push, or pull heavy objects (up to [insert weight] lbs) as needed.
    • Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
    • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and metalworking machinery.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection may be required.
